Activities: playing 'in the world', writing, developing new scenarios, baking Home: condo on the water Finance: most excellent -- owns part share of very successful company and also draws a salary History: Alden was the youngest of the Old Ones - a group of kids who played on a MUSH when they were younger and developed it into an MMORPG when they were teenagers. They each did what they do best -- Alden wrote amazing, long, imaginative stories that translated wonderfully into The Lady's images or Merriman's programming or other parts of the games that the other Old Ones manage. In the beginning, it was just a lark -- they only started to charge people to play when the user base went over 1000 characters, and they had to get rackspace on a proper server farm to really make it run properly. That took about ten years, all told -- he was twenty-one when they got their first payment. That was 1997. They managed to incorporate into a proper company just after. After that, it grew by leaps and bounds. They spent most of the summer of 1998 stickering, boxing, and labeling software to send out. In 2001 they hired their first employees that weren't, well, themselves. By the end of 2004 they were shopping for a corporate headquarters; they opened the doors in 2005 thanks to a lot of luck and kismet. They could have sold out the company and made ridiculous amounts of money just about any time in the early '00s. But after being told what their game was worth, they decided to keep their hands firmly on the reigns and steer the company themselves. It was the best idea they ever had. If they'd sold, the company would have been worth hundreds of thousands apiece to them. Since they stayed, they're all millionaires. Lost Lands and the expansions from Lords of Light are some of the most popular MMOs in the marketplace. While they've taken their hits from all the big names -- WoW, Ultima, City of Heroes, all the rest -- the one company they really keep an eye on is Rider Technologies. They were the company that originally tried to buy Lords of Light, back in the day, and the companies have risen side by side in the south, each one circling the other. The idea of a hostile takeover is not outside of the realm of possibility. They work to keep Rider at bay, and they've succeeded so far. In the city, Alden's known quite well as a bit of a playboy. He doesn't party hard, but he certainly goes through significant others like a buzzsaw through balsa. Spring break is his favorite time of year, yes indeedy do. He will never settle down, that's his theory.
